Requirements for Volunteering

In-House Staff, Shelter Location
Weekdays

Core Standards, Volunteers Must:

1.       Be at least 14 years of age at the time of service or have a special invite from a Director

2.       Have visited our Rescue and spoken with our staff.

3.      Maintain a minimum 3.5 grade point average, if in school

4.       Commit to serve a minimum of two, 2 hour shifts per month that are regular, ongoing and pre-scheduled

5.     Commit to a Volunteer service term of at least six months

6.      Be able to stand and walk for up to 2 hours; be able to bend, reach, lift, and carry up to 20 lbs

7.       Be dependable, flexible, understanding, patient and observant

8.    Be able to follow detailed instructions and work independently without supervision

In-House Staff, Shelter Location
Saturdays

In addition to the core standards, Saturday Volunteers Must:

1.       Be at least 16 years of age at the time of service, or a proven Lead

2.       Be VERY cavy savvy and able to answer detailed and specific questions about guinea pigs, as per the Rescue's Standards of Care

3.       Be knowledgeable about the Rescue, and able to answer detailed and specific questions about our operations and procedures, as per the Rescue's Standards of Operations

4.       Be comfortable working with the public in a hectic and fast paced environment

5.       Be able to handle extremely stressful and often emotional situations

6.       Be willing to do anything that needs to get done from cleaning cages, to helping customers to their cars, to cleaning perineal sacs.
